“The Gem of the Valley”

The Tiskilwa Historical Society is pleased to announce a special program featuring award-winning Ojibwa author and speaker Kim Sigafus McIver on Monday, October 13 at 7:00 p.m. The event, titled “Singing Bird and the Importance of Native American Women in Illinois History,” is free and open to the public.

Kim Sigafus McIver, a longtime Illinois Humanities Road Scholar, will bring history to life in this engaging and interactive 60-minute presentation. Dressed in her Native regalia, she will introduce audience members to the stories of remarkable Native women such as Singing Bird (Black Hawk’s wife) and Hononegah.

The program will also include:

  • Hands-on exploration of daily-life artifacts

  • Native music and language demonstrations

  • Drumming opportunities for the audience

  • A concluding Q&A session

The event will take place at the Mueum on Main.

Hours of Operation

Our Museum on Main is open every Saturday from 10:00 to 1:00.

Our Gallery on Galena is open every first Saturday from 10:00 to 1:00.

Admission is free, donations appreciated.
